Money Donated in 2011
In 2011, Children in Need donated a total of $10,821.00 to various charities including:
Save the Children - Japan Fund
"When the Great East Japan earthquake and tsunami hit the northeastern coast of Japan on March 11, 2011, children were among the most vulnerable. Thousands had their homes devastated, countless lost family members and friends, and children of all ages saw their schools damaged or destroyed."
In April 2011, Children in Need held a bake sale to raise money for the families impacted in Japan. Following the bake sale, Children also held a benefit concert. In total, the club donated $900 to Save the Children's Japan Fund. In May 2011, Cioppino's also made a $1,000 donation to Save the Children in the name of Children in Need.
World Vision Sponsorship Program - Niger
"World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice. We serve close to 100 million people in nearly 100 countries around the world. World Vision serves all people, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity, or gender."
On May 2, 2011, our club paid $210 as a 6-month extension of our sponsorship of a child in Niger, Africa. Our previously sponsored child, Mohamed Moustapha, moved away. World Vision provided us with a new child to sponsor, Idrissa Abdah, who also lives in Niger.
On November 25, 2011, our club donated another $210 to continue our sponsorship of the child in Niger for the next 6 months.
SEAPC Touching Hearts Tibet sends doctors from the United States to Tibet to treat as many children with congenital heart disease as possible.
On May 10, 2011, we donated $1,000 to SEAPC Touching Hearts Tibet to support their treatment of 58 children at the Children Hospital in Lhasa, Tibet.
On September 4, 2011, our club held a "Concert of Life" dedicated to SEAPC Touching Hearts for their on-going efforts to treat Tibetan children with heart diseases. The total collection from the concert was $1,600 and we donted the money directly to SEAPC.
World Vision's Emergency Response and Disaster Relief
"World Vision is positioned and equipped to respond to disasters all around the world — including right here in the United States. In the wake of floods, storms, wildfires, hurricanes, and other catastrophes, American families receive vital supplies and support from World Vision."
On July 20, 2011, we donated $300 to this Disaster Relief Fund to help World Vision to distribute first aid kits, hygiene supplies, and other essential products to states in Alabama, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Vermont, and Virginia.
The Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund
"The Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund provides one-time, temporary assistance to help people living in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma counties. 85% of the donated funds go directly to families in crisis in the Bay Area and 15% go to Bay Area food banks."
On December 1, 2011, Cioppino's Restaurant has announced that it has agreed to donate $3,000 to Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund in honor of Children In Need and Vivace Group. In response to the noble cause, the Fermata Group held one concert at Villa Capri on December 2, 2011 and the other concert at the reception party for the new headmaster of Saint Mark's School on December 16, 2011. It was able to raise an additional $381 for the Chronicle Season of Sharing Fund.
ABS CBN Foundations, Bantay Bata 163 - The Philippines
ABS-CBN Foundation is the philanthropic arm of ABS CBN International, the largest media company in the Philippines. On December 21, 2011, Gabrielle "Gaby" Berbey was invited to perform at the graduation ceremony of the Filipino nurse scholars who went to the American College of Nursing sponsored by the foundation. During the ceremony, a minute of silence was observed to remember the hundreds of lives lost in the Typhoon Sendong tragedy.
Before her performance, Gabrielle "Gaby" wrote to some prospective donors and asked for donations for the Sendong victims. She was able to raise $2,220 and donated the same amount to ABS CBN for this cause.
