Money Donated in 2010

In the year of 2010, Children in Need donated a total of $5,512.28 to the following charities:

SOS Children's Villages in Chile

"The terrible earthquake that shook Chile in February 2010 has certainly aggravated the living conditions of the country's poor.  However, severe structural poverty in Chile had already existed before the natural disaster. Nearly 33,000 Chileans face a life in shantytowns."

In March, 2010, our club held a bake sale at San Domenico School in response to the devastating earthquake in Chile in the month of February, 2010.  We raised $150 and sent the donation to SOS Children's Villages in Chile to help rebuild the buildings for their orphans in the impacted area.

Save the Children -  Haiti Relief Fund

"Save the Children's humanitarian response to Haiti's epic earthquake on January 12, 2010 represents one of the most challenging and complex emergency efforts we have ever undertaken."

Children in Need had its first concert in response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti that killed more than 200,000 people and left more than 1 million people homeless.  The concert was held at Smith Ranch Homes and raised $400 for Haiti Relief Fund of Save the Children.

San Domenico School's Annual Fund Raising On-line Auction

"Dedicated to being California's leading independent school, serving pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade students of all faiths, San Domencio is committed to excellence in education, preparing the next generation of global leaders."

In April, 2010, Children in Need offered a free concert as an auction item at San Domenico School's Annual Fund Raising.  The bidder paid $301 directly to the school for the club's offer.

SEAPC's Touching Hearts in Tibet

"Touching Hearts is the survey and treatment of children with congenital heart disease in Tibet, PRC.  Approximately 9,000 children in Tibet have CHD and are waiting to be found. Hundreds have been cured to date, through Touching Hearts."

In May and September, SEAPC Touching Hearts sent out doctors and nurses from the U.S. to Lhasa and Shigates in Tibet to treat local children who suffered from heart diseases.  In response to the noble actions, Children in Need held a bake sale at San Domencio School and one concert at Atria Tamalpais Creek Retirement Center in May. Through these efforts, the club was able to donate $300 in May and $400 in September of 2010.

ABS CBN Foundation in the Philippines

"ABS CBN Foundation, Inc. (AFI) is a committed advocate for public services in strategic sector of Philippines society. AFI aims to awaken hope in the Filipino through implementing projects via multi-sectoral partnerships in the spirit of bayanihan."

In July, Children in Need held a concert at Rossmoor, Walnut Creek with more than 200 audience attending. The club was able to raise $400 to support abused and disadvantaged children in the Philippines through ABS CBN Foundation.

Save the Children - Pakistan Emergency Fund

"Millions of survivors of Pakistan's recent torrential rains and floods are suffering. The flooding has destroyed more than one million homes - leaving many families with no place to go but disaster survivor camps. Save the Children is preparing to launch a full scale response including food, shelter, health, child protection and more."

In September, 2010, the Chioppino's restaurant announced to donate $3,000 to Save the Children Pakistan Emergency Fund in the name of our club. This donation was to help flood victims in Pakistan.

Sun Village Beijing, China

"Over the last 14 years, the Sun Village has helped over 2,000 children of convicts. Currently, around 130 children between the ages of 1 and 18 reside at Sun Village Beijing.  The children come from all over China."

In October, 2010, Children in Need started selling bookmarks made by children at Sun Village Beijing through a bake sale at San Domenico School and performance at Respect Life Event at San Rafael Mission. Each bookmark was to portray an article of United Nations' Convention on the Rights of the Child. In December, 2010, the club was able to donate $320 collected through the sales of bookmarks.

World Vision Sponsorship Program - Niger

"Over 14 percent of Niger's people are functionally literate.  Educational opportunities are limited for many boys and girls. Without good schooling, it will be extremely difficult for these children to break free from the cycle of poverty."

In December, 2010, Children in Need recognized the extreme poverty situation in Niger and started sponsoring a child there through World Vision Sponsorship Program by paying a six-month sponsorship fee, $210.
