In the year of 2013, Children in Need has donated $6,841.90 to the following charities:
World Vision Sponsorship Program - Niger
In March, 2013, Children in Need held a bake sale at San Domenico School and an Easter Concert at Atria Tamapalis Creek. Proceeds from these two events plus money from last year helped the club continue to sponsor the boy in Niger for another 6 months with $210 payment. In October, 2013, club members held a bookmark and bake sale at San Domenico school. From the bake sale, they were able to pay $210 for the next 6-month sponsorship.
Asna Orphanage - Nepal
Asna Orphanage, located in Chitwan, Nepal was established by the Nepali government in 1999.
In June 2013, Children in Need's Outreach Coordinator and Project Leader in Nepal, Fiona Wang, spent one week in helping maintain the garden and tutor the children at the orphanage. Before her trip, Fiona and Children in Need raised $310.45 through a school bake sale, card sales and private concerts in Marin County, CA. Fiona was able to use the money to buy two bicycles, school supplies, text books and new clothes for the children at Asna Orphanage.
Harmony Home Association - Taiwan
Harmony Home Association, Taiwan (HHAT) is a registered, non-profit organization committed to helping people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS. Children in Need's project leader in Taiwan, Nicole Wu, helped take care of children at Harmony Home for two weeks in June, 2013. On behalf of Children in Need, Nicole donated $153.05 to this organization through a school bake sale and private concert in Marin County, CA.
Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford
As a Circles of Leadership member, Children in Need was invited to participate in helping the expansion of the hospital which has begun building a 150-bed state-of-the-art expansion to the Stanford facility. Through private funding, Children in Need made a $1,000 donation to this expansion project. In return, the name of Children in Need Club will be engraved on one of the Donors' Bricks which will line two pathways outside the new hospital building.
Eagles Wings, established by Chinese Orphans Assistance Team (COAT), is to provide care and improve quality life for disabled and abandoned children in long-term, loving family environment. Children in Need's President and Project Leader in China, Cherry Yuan, visited Eagles Wings for one week in July, 2013. During her visit, Cherry assisted specialists from the US to provide music therapy and training to special needs children. Cherry also donated $200 to Eagles' Wings on behalf of Children in Need. The money was raised from street busking at Montecito Plaza, San Rafael, CA.
In July, 2013, Children in Need's Project Leader in Cambodia, Alex Berbey, traveled to Cambodia and visited orphanages and schools built by the Cambodia Christian Schools Network, of which SEAPC is in charge. Prior to his trip, Alex organized a bake sale and raised $383.40. With the money, Alex was able to buy a new drum set and school books for the children at New Hope for Orphans in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
In September, 2013, Children in Need was invited to perform with a dance group from New Hope for Orphans in Cambodia in the bay area. To support this dance tour, Children in Need made a $500 donation to SEAPC. At the end, we were able to help SEAPC raise an additional $1,045 from the concert tour.
In the fall of 2013, monsoon floods have caused considerable damages to 20 out of 24 provinces in Cambodia. Through a bake sale at San Domenico School and a concert at SF Towers, Children in Need members raised $400. The money was sent to SEPAC and intended for the flood damaged New Hope for Orphans Home in Banteay Meanchey.
ABS CBN Foundation International
In response to help Typhoon Haiyan victims in the Philippines, CiN held concerts in November and December, 2013 at SF Towers. CiN's members also held a bake sale at San Domenico School in December, 2013. Together CiN raised $430 for the Typhoon Haiyan victims and sent a check to ABS CBN Foundation International.
In addition, Cioppino's Restaurant and Louie Linguini's made a total donation of $2,000 to ABS CBN Foundation International in the name of Children in Need as a concerted effort to help the typhoon victims in the Philippines.
