Jo Griffin is a Junior in the Virtuoso Program at San Domenico School. She is a graduate of The Crowden School, which she attended from 4th to 8th grade. Jo started piano lesson at age four, and then violin at age eight. She currently studies violin with Wei He. She is a member of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, and will go on tour with them to Europe next summer. Jo was previously concertmaster of the Oakland Youth Orchestra, and was a first place winner of their 2013 concerto competition. Jo has performed in the Junior Bach Festival in 2010, 2011, 2012 (with Crowden ensembles and chorus) and 2014 (as a soloist). She has attended Music@Menlo Chamber Music Institute and Boston University Tanglewood Institute (String Quartet Workshop). In addition to performing, Jo also likes composing. For four years she was enrolled in the John Adams Young Composers Program, studying composition with Arkadi Serper. Jo is a winner of the 2013 National Young Composers Challenge for her piece, String Quartet in D Major.
